With Hindustani Classical Music, regardless of instrument( or voca)l, there are techniques one can use to add a little omph to their piece. Often using indirect manners to play the swaras, the embellishments often are seamless in compositions.
Alankaar techniques include Meend (glides), Murki (trills), Gamak (tremolos), Khinch (bending notes), and Sthai (holding notes). And each technique based on the raga’s emotion invokes a different experience for the listener!
